Information Advice and Support (IAS) Service for Windsor and Maidenhead Independent Advisory Group – Terms of Reference

Purpose

To ensure that:

  • the IAS Service is effective in providing information, advice and support to children and young people with special educational needs and disability (SEND), and their parents, in accordance with the requirements of the SEND Code of Practice the national good practice guidance set out in IASSN Quality Standards;
  • the views and experiences of parents, children and young people inform the development of policies and practice so that the services provided by the IAS Service continue to meet the needs of local families;
  • the service operates at “arm’s length” and remains independent of those responsible for making decisions that directly affect provision for children, young people and their families,  so that parents can have confidence that the information, advice and support they receive is impartial;
  • the service promotes the active involvement of children and their parents, and young people, in planning their provision and making decisions about the services they use;
  • the IAS Service is able to provide relevant information, guidance and appropriate support to enable and assist participation;
  • any gaps in service are identified and addressed.

 

Membership

The independent Advisory Group will include:

  • Parents whose children are, or have until recently been, in education, including parents who have used the service
  • Representative(s) of the Parent Carer Council for Windsor and Maidenhead
  • Volunteer Independent Parental Supporter(s)
  • Representative(s) of community or voluntary sector organisation(s) supporting local families
  • Representative(s)from local school(s) who work closely with children and young people with SEND, and their families
  • Representative(s) of the Children and Young People’s Disability Service (CYPDS)
  • A representative of the Children and Young People’s Integrated Therapies Service (CYPITS), part of Berkshire Health Foundation Trust
  • IAS Service Manager and IAS Service Officer(s)
  • Service Leader for Strategic Commissioning and Practice Improvement in RBWM

 

  1. Members of the group will draw on their own knowledge and experience to contribute to the development and improvement of the IAS Service.
  2. The Advisory Group will support the annual plan of work for the IAS Service and receive regular feedback on work undertaken.
  3. The Advisory Group will promote the work and activities of the IAS Service.
  4. The Advisory Group will meet at least termly, during school term time.
  5. Membership will be reviewed every two years. The Advisory Group will always welcome interest from parents and young people who wish to become involved.
